Environment sizing tools

To allow users to more accurately assess environment sizing requirements, the Plixer Scrutinizer web interface includes several views that display current system utilization and/or recommended resource allocation.

System performance view

The Admin > System Performance page provides access to several resource usage graphs for the Plixer Scrutinizer system:

  • CPU (%)
  • Memory (GB)
  • Host Index size (%)
  • Alarm database size (%)

The graphs show utilization of their respective resources over the past 24 hours and are meant to aid in the forecasting of future allocation needs.

Active Collector statistics

In addition, the System Performance page lists all active Plixer Scrutinizer servers/Collectors, along with their resource allocation/utilization statistics in a table.

Drilling down into a Collector will open a new view displaying the following detailed statistics:

  • Current and predicted disk utilization
  • Current vs. allocated disk space based on configured data retention settings
  • Current and predicted disk utilization per roll-up interval bucket

The Collector utilization details also has a drop down to show current vs. recommended CPU core and memory allocation charts based on the number of active Exporters.

Feature resources view

The Admin > Feature Resources page lists all currently enabled feature and Flow Analytics algorithm categories, along with the CPU cores and RAM required to support their use. An Importance column is also included to show the relative importance of each feature in the context of Plixer Scrutinizer’s core functions.

Clicking on one of the listed features will open a quick-access tray displaying a detailed view of the feature’s resource requirements. Features whose Importance value is less than 100 can also be disabled from the tray using the Active switch.

Disk utilization summary

The Admin > Settings > Data History page includes tables showing current and predicted disk utiization per Collector, based on the current data retention settings, along with a recommended disk size for each Collector.
